South Whitehall Township has been awarded $1,500,000 through PennDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) Program to construct Segments 35 through 40 of the Jordan Creek Greenway Trail.

The project will extend the regional trail system in Lehigh County by constructing approximately one mile of new 10-foot-wide paved shared-use trail connecting Covered Bridge Park to Parkland High School. The new trail segment will begin at the Lapp Road parking lot and continue to the intersection of Cedar Crest Boulevard and the entrance road into Parkland High School. The project will also include a marked crosswalk at Ritter Road to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

The Jordan Creek Greenway is part of the regional LINK Trail Network and continues South Whitehall Township’s ongoing efforts to expand safe walking and biking connections between neighborhoods, parks, schools, and surrounding communities.

Township officials noted that the project will improve access to Parkland High School while helping close a key gap in the Jordan Creek Greenway corridor.

Construction is anticipated to move forward following completion of final engineering and permitting.
